Web of Life

During the Brisbane season of the tour of Cabaret, I was having an extremely overwhelming desire to write a piece of theatre, and yet no idea what to write, let alone knowing whether I was even capable of writing anything. Very rarely do I experience moments of absolute clarity where I am able to put my finger on a specific moment, however, my first play was the result of this experience. I was listening to a song, by Daft Punk, a german electronic outfit, and it became the sole inspiration for an idea. “Web of Life” exploded from my imagination and leapt onto the page, all because of one song. It has been both the joy and frustration of my life for 2 years. A play reading has been performed of this play, but it has yet to be put onto the stage. I have added the track from Daft Punk that singlehandedly inspired “Web of Life” for your listening pleasure. What grabbed me specifically about this track, is that it gave me the idea to combine 2 very different styles of music together, classical, and electronica, to deepen the themes of the play.
